First, the dealer is going to deal you two cards. You have to look at your cards and decide if you want to hit, take a third card, or stand; do not take any additional cards, and let the two you have ride. You can keep taking cards until you feel you are close enough to twenty-one to win the round.

If you have twelve or better, and the dealer has a four, five, or a six, you should stand if your own cards add up to twelve or better.

The only other time you have the option to split your hand is when you have a pair of tens. When you find yourself in this position, you should not split. You already have twenty, which is going to be hard for the dealer to beat. By not splitting, you have a really good chance of having one winning hand, but if you split, you could lose both hands.
When you go to the casino to play Blackjack you should only bring the maximum amount of money, in cash, with you. Leave your ATM card, your credit cards, and your check book at home. By doing this you won’t be tempted to lose more than you safely can afford to.
